Quality of Life
One thing that everyone may not know about me is that I have two special needs pitties! Both of them have a disease called a lysosomal storage disorder which causes calcium build up in the eyes that eventually leads to them not being able to see at all, severe mobility issues, and compromised immune systems that can lead to gut and skin issues. Not fun… right?! 👎
When we first got Rosie, multiple vets suggested euthanasia due to quality of life concerns. We figured we’d take her home for a few good days and then say our goodbyes but when we got home with her we saw a whole new side of her! She was howling to music when we would put it on, had a crazy appetite, and would even try to hump the cats! 😜 We decided that if she was willing to show us that she wanted to live, who were we to tell her she couldn’t?
While Rosie is definitely a dog who has needed the entire book of both Western and Eastern medicine thrown at her to keep her doing well with all of her issues…🤣 she’s taught me all about what quality of life actually is! When it comes to your pet’s quality of life there’s a few important things to remember:
👉 You know your pet better than ANYONE! Which means that if you’re getting a gut feeling about something, don’t be afraid to follow it. That gut feeling may be telling you to seek out a second professional opinion, to look for other alternatives, or it might be that it’s finally time to say goodbye, and all of those are OKAY! Listen to that gut feeling, it’s got a pretty good track record!
👉 just because your pet isn’t moving like the perfect puppy that they used to doesn’t mean they’re miserable! They might be a little bit slower and have to find new ways to do the things they love, but it’s up to us to adapt to their aging process.
Chiropractic can be immensely useful when it comes to quality of life. Whether it be keeping your pet moving well, keeping them comfortable and helping to control pain, or helping with hind end weakness- we’re here for it all! ❤️
